3 days Burundi tour is a special short trip crafted to let you explore and experience Burundi regardless of tight schedule. Karera falls/The Chutes de la Karera has a composition of 4 waterfalls with the most scenic one being Nyakai 1, then the smallest is Nyakai 11. From Gitega, Karera falls is 64kms away. Gitega museum is Burundi’s national museum, and it is found right in Gitega and dates back to 1955 when it was founded when Burundi was still under the Belgian colonial rule.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, transfer to a hotel
Upon early arrival at Bujumbura airport, meet your driver guide for a warm welcome and briefing on your 3 days Burundi tour. Begin your day in Burundi with a short city tour which allows you visit the explorers monument/Livingstone-Stanley monument in Mugere 12kms from Bujumbura. This overviews the beautiful Lake Tanganyika, and it is where Dr. David Livingstone plus journalists and Henry Morton Stanley visited and had 2 nights in 1871.
Day 2: Explore Karera falls, Source of the Nile & Gitega
Enjoy a delicious breakfast, after, set off for Rutana where Karera falls is located. You will explore a collection of 4 waterfalls that make up the Karera waterfalls, then proceed to the Source of the Nile and lastly, explore Gitega museum. At Gitega museum, you will come across different artifacts from Burundi, etc. If time allows, continue to Gishora Drum Sanctuary 7km from Gitega town. After your excursion, return to a hotel in Bujumbura for overnight stay.
Day 3: Departure
After a hefty breakfast, you will check out of the hotel and drive to Rusizi National Park, about 15kms from Bujumbura city. Enjoy a short boat excursion, see hippos, and return to take a flight or relax at your hotel.
