4 Days Virunga Gorilla Trek And Nyirangongo Hike

The 4 days Virun­ga goril­las and Nyi­ran­gon­go hike is an amaz­ing safari of all time that many trav­ellers like to do while in Africa prefer­ably in the Demo­c­ra­t­ic Repub­lic of the Con­go. The safari will begin in Kigali and end in Kigali city of Rwan­da. The safari will open you an oppor­tu­ni­ty to explore the vast land of Con­go which has some views of the envi­ron­ment and its unique attractions.

This safari will take you to Kigali from where you trans­fer to the Gisenyi bor­der of Con­go where you will move to Virun­ga Nation­al park for goril­la trekking and then head to Nyi­ran­gon­go for hik­ing the top of the vol­cano where you will view the lava lakes live before descend­ing and dri­ving back to Kigali city or at the air­port for your flight.

Detailed Itin­er­ary

Day 1: Arrival at the air­port in Kigali and dri­ve to the Gisenyi bor­der of Congo

On this first day of your safari, be picked up by your dri­ver guide as soon as you arrive at the air­port who will short­ly brief you on the guide­line to fol­low while on this 4 day Virun­ga goril­la trek and Nyi­ran­gon­go hike and the brief­ing, dri­ve to Gisenyi bor­der of Con­go for your doc­u­men­tary clear­ance and after pro­ceed­ing with your jour­ney to Virun­ga nation­al park where you will dri­ve for 3–4 hour. Enjoy the beau­ti­ful land­scape and oth­er nat­ur­al set­tings and check in at your booked lodge for your din­ner and night stays.

Day 2:  goril­la trekking in Virunga

To catch up with time for your activ­i­ty, have your well-served morn­ing break­fast at your lodge and then dri­ve to Buki­ma park sta­tion in the Virun­ga nation­al park a point where most trekkers con­gre­gate and are divid­ed into 8 and be allo­cat­ed a goril­la group and get a brief­ing about how to behave while trekking. After the brief­ing, start the trek to face these ani­mals an activ­i­ty that will take you 1–8 hours but depend­ing on the movements.

Pro­ceed with the trek and imme­di­ate­ly after reach­ing them an extra hour will be giv­en you will be giv­en to you in their pres­ence as you are hav­ing a look at these giant ani­mals play­ing with their young ones, moth­ers groom­ing their young ones and juve­niles try­ing to enter­tain you. Return to the park post for a trekking cer­tifi­cate and after dri­ve back to your lodge where you will spend your night and have your dinner.

Day 3: Hik­ing Nyirangongo

Enjoy your break­fast at your lodge in the morn­ing and take a 30km dri­ve from your lodge to your Nyi­ran­gon­go vol­cano where a ranger guide and a porter will meet you and brief you and after take you up at the top of Nyi­ran­gon­go vol­cano on a jour­ney that will last for 4–6 hours to reach the top of this world’s active vol­cano. Enjoy the amaz­ing views of the area as you are watch­ing the birds fly­ing and some mam­mal species. Up on the reach to the top of the vol­cano, enjoy the views of lava boil­ing on lakes. After spend­ing a night there and being pro­vid­ed with the tents and din­ner is served there.

Day 4: Dri­ve back to Kigali for your flight.

This is the last day of your safari, begin it with your peace­ful break­fast at your lodge from where you will start descend­ing from the top of Nyi­ran­gon­go to the patrol of Kibati and dri­ve to the lodge for lunch and as soon as you are done with lunch, dri­ve to Kigali city and be dropped at your hotel or be dri­ven to the air­port and fly back home.
